The story so far...
90 Mile Wines Pty Ltd was created in late 2009 when Steve Ramsey retired from a high level public service position to join forces with two highly regarded members of the wine industry, Martin Kay and Craig Schiller. Initially they produced wines under the label of Beeamma Estate from their Padthaway vineyard in the South East of South Australia. Recognising the need to establish our wine tasting and sales outlet where it best suited our customers, we opted to set up our first cellar door in the popular tourist destination of Middleton, just one hour south of Adelaide. From the vineyard to the cellar door was 90 miles as the crow flies, hence the name of their newly established label.
This arrangement served us well for the first 4 years, however circumstances saw Martin and Craig move into new opportunities, the vineyard was sold and Steve continued to operate 90 Mile Wines as a sole Director, contracting in local grapes which were crafted into fine wine by highly regarded wine makers. We are proud of our wines and love nothing more than to see our customers enjoy the fruits of our labour.
In late 2014 the opportunity arose for the cellar door to be relocated to the historic Goolwa Wharf where much greater foot traffic has seen the business go from strength to strength. Set up in a heritage shed on the wharf, 90 Mile Wines now operates its unique cellar door, cafe and wine bar, with views of the mighty River Murray that need to be seen to be believed. Known as the Wharf Barrel Shed, this venue promotes the best of the Fleurieu Peninsula in terms of wine, food, beer and live music which is performed every Friday night and Sunday afternoon. It is our intention to ensure everyone who visits our cellar door has an experience to remember.
A new metaphor surrounding our 90 Mile brand is continued from here with the nearby 90 Mile Beach beginning from where the River Murray enters the Southern Ocean and runs the entire length of the World Heritage listed Coorong National Park. The pristine nature of this unique part of the world inspires everything we do.
I am extremely proud of all we have achieved in such a short time and commend our fabulous range of award winning wines to you. I know you won’t be disappointed...
