Our History

Created in 2009, 90 Mile Wines is a small family owned wine business that started out life with a small cellar door operation in Middleton, South Australia. Our first wines originated from estate grown varietals in Padthaway and McLaren Vale, The venture is the brain child of Steve Ramsey, who had recently retired from professional life to take on a new and exciting journey. Early days saw a slow build up of the brand and its traditional cellar door offering, however, when an opportunity to relocate the cellar door to the famous Goolwa Wharf arose in 2014, Steve and family were excited to take the business in a new direction. Creating a venue that offered more than just wine tasting and sales - the Wharf Barrel Shed - quickly became a hit with locals and tourists alike for its unique mix of food, craft beer, wine (of course), events and live music, all with the confines of a rustic and heritage-listed wharf shed, located right on the waters edge. Making customer service the number one priority, the Wharf Barrel Shed would win many local small business awards in its first few years of operation, proving that our focus on good service is key to growing a good business.

On the back of our reputation for great service, the Wharf Barrel Shed continued to grow in the wharf shed, with so many great memories (and many sore heads) created over the next 9 years! Surviving the challenges faced by the global pandemic, the business then surged ahead in 2021 as the amount of tourist visitation and land sales in Goolwa and surrounds spiked. In April of 2023, the business had to be relocated to the adjacent Signal Point complex, to allow long overdue repairs for the wharf and wharf shed to commence, as part of a multi-million dollar revitalisation project for the Goolwa Wharf Precinct. This move coincided with another change in the business, with Steve stepping down and son Chris (and wife Natalie) taking over as director.

Today, the newly named Wharf Wine Bar continues to grow, in a larger space in our Signal Point home. With more room for events, functions and general space for our guests, we're aiming to get bigger and better! We have a strong focus on promoting our local region, be it through our wine list, our food menu, or our live entertainment program. We're focused on expanding our food and night time trade, to better cater for locals and visitors in a town and region that is expanding rapidly.
